This lecture discusses theoretical and practical application of bio-molecular techniques to support plant breeding program. The course discuss basic theory of recombination and population development that are necessary for understanding genetic analysis at the molecular level. It also elaborate a number of molecular techniques associated with plant breeding.

The examples of molecular techniques discuss in class are: RAPD marker, ISSR marker and AFLP marker (dominant markers), and SSR marker, SSCP marker, and SNP markers (co-dominant markers). The lecturers will illustrate utilization of these molecular marker techniques in relation to genetic diversity analysis, plant genome mapping, gene tagging and supporting plant breeding activities.

In addition to lecture activities, the course will also conduct laboratory activities in the form of simulation, group discussion, or practical molecular data analysis to obtain in-depth understanding for a number of discussed topics in the lecture part. The lab activities will illustrate application of a number of softwares for molecular marker data analysis.

AGH635 is a 3 (2-3) credit course consisting of two credits lectures and one credit lab activities, respectively. The interested graduate students could take AGH635 during the odd semester every year. Mata kuliah ini menjelaskan prinsip dasar dan metode-metode aplikatif dalam teknik-teknik biologi molekuler tanaman, termasuk prinsip dan metode isolasi DNA, isolasi RNA, kuantifikasi dan cek kualitas DNA/ RNA menggunakan teknik spektrometri dan elektroporasi, desain primer, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), kloning gen, hibridisasi DNA/ RNA melalui kuliah, simulasi dan praktikum basah di laboratorium.
Mata kuliah ini membahas terminology dan batasan, jenis, metode ekstraksi dan kuantifikasi, biosintesis, cara kerja hormone, transduksi sinyal, dan fungsi hormone. Penggunaan dalam bidang pertanian (pembiakan tanaman, kultur jaringan, produksi tanaman, pemuliaan tanaman dll.) akan dibahas. Jenis hormone yang dibahas: auksin, giberelin, sitokinin, etilen, asam absisat, retardan, poliamin, brasinosteroid, asam jasmonat, asam salisilat, dan peptide kecil.
